The city holds a Christmas Dinner celebration for all its residents each year. Christmas candy is provided for the children and everyone enjoys a turkey dinner provided by the City Council, with potluck side dishes. The smallest city in Minidoka County, Minidoka recently acquired the land to subdivide 13 lots, the Shellington Addition. The city boasts 23 complete Eagle projects and a park where residents don't have to worry if a toy or article of clothing is left by a child. "We often see bikes or other toys left in the park and no one bothers them until the owner returns to retrieve them," Homer said. "It's a wonderful, safe community, and we've been told by many to never, never let it change."

This tiny Minidoka County town, about 13 miles northeast of Rupert, has a big history and a tremendous amount of staying power. Mayor Maxine Homer has led the city for 27 years. In a town of only 103 people, she says she must be doing something right. Until a 1906 fire destroyed more than half the town, it was the original county seat. In those days, Minidoka boasted 55 businesses, all of which sat on the north side of the Oregon Short Line Railroad track. Population then was 2,000 to 2,500.
