Burley's Arbor Day celebration will be held at White Pine School on Friday, April 23rd at 10:00am. The Modern Woodmen of America will donate a Colorado Blue Spruce to the school for the event. 4th grade students are invited to the presentation given by Mayor Terry Greenman, Gerry Bates of the Idaho Community Forestry Advisory Council, and Principal Matt Seely. Four 4th grade winners of an essay contest will be announced and will be recognized on a plaque that will hang at the school. Dile Monson, who recently retired as the city’s electrical superintendent, and Bill Atkins from the Cassia Regional Technical Center made the plaque from the wood of a silver maple tree. Every year the Burley tree committee works with the 4th graders to promote trees and their care. This will be the third year a tree has been planted at the school in honor of National Arbor Day and the city’s 10th year to receive recognition as a Tree City USA. |
