Oakley's Capital For A Day (All Day)

OAKLEY TO HOST APRIL “CAPITAL FOR A DAY”

Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter announced that the Cassia County community of Oakley will be Idaho’s “Capital for a Day” on Monday, April 12th.

The first-come, first-served open opportunity to meet with the Governor, selected members of his Cabinet and other senior state officials is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oakley Fire Department, located at 315 E. Main Street in Oakley.  The Governor also will join Mayor Georgia Dimick, other state and local leaders, and community members for lunch at noon at the same location.  The public also is welcome to attend the lunch.

Officials joining Governor Otter at Capital for a Day will include Lieutenant Governor Brad Little, Fish and Game Commission Chairman Wayne Wright; Jim Unsworth, deputy director of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG); Jerome Hansen, IDFG regional supervisor; Paul Kjellander, administrator of the Governor’s Office of Energy Resources; Gary Spackman, interim director of the Idaho Department of Water Resources; Celia Gould, director of the Idaho State Department of Agriculture; Roger Madsen, director of the Idaho Department of Labor; Mike Rush, executive director of the State Board of Education; Colonel Jerry Russell, director of the Idaho State Police; Kim Toryanski, administrator of the Commission on Aging; Royce Chigbrow, chairman of the Idaho State Tax Commission; Brian Ness, director of the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD); Devin Rigby, ITD district engineer; Bibiana Nertney, administrator of the marketing, communication, and research division at the Idaho Department of Commerce; Bill Allred, regional administrator for the Department of Environmental Quality; Tim Duffner, area supervisor for the Idaho Department of Lands; a representative of the State Department of Education; and Dustin Miller with the Governor’s Office of Species Conservation.

“Cassia County has a great tradition of sending highly effective public servants to represent their interests in Boise. But there’s nothing quite the same as having your State government right there in front of you, discussing issues face to face with the men and women who implement the laws and rules set by our citizen Legislature,” Governor Otter said. “My Cabinet members are eager to join me at these Capital for Day events. It enables them to stay in touch with how their work is impacting the people we serve and learn how we can do our jobs better.”

Mastermind Group Meeting (3:30 pm - 4:30 pm)

The mastermind is defined as: “Coordination of knowledge and effort in a spirit of harmony between two or more people for the attainment of a definite purpose.”

Many people assume that this is describing teamwork, but that is not correct.

From the Napoleon Hill Foundation book “Believe and Achieve” is the following:

Teamwork can be achieved by any group, even one whose members have disparate interests, because all it requires is cooperation. In teamwork people might simply be cooperating because they like the leader or out of a sense of duty. Some team members will give 100% to any team, who pays them enough, but they have little concern about the objective, and sometimes there is good teamwork because different members have different agendas.  A board of directors may disagree, even be unfriendly, and still run a business successfully. Musical groups are made up of notoriously self centered people, who work as a team, if it will help them get ahead.

Masterminds, on the other hand, are formed of individuals who have the same agenda, a deep sense of mission, and commitment to the same goal. Masterminds represent the highest activity of thinking by a group of knowledgeable people, each contributing their absolute best according to their abilities, expertise, and background.

If you have ever been a part of a meeting when everything just” clicked” and ideas build upon other ideas, with each member contributing, until out of the group activity came the best possible idea or solution,  that was a mastermind at work. Napoleon Hill believed that you must make the mastermind experience a regular part of your life if you really want to succeed.

Please contact me if you would like to participate. With enough participation we will be meeting weekly.

Burley Arbor Day Celebration (10:00 am - 11:00 am)

Burley's Arbor Day celebration will be held at White Pine School on Friday, April 23rd at 10:00am.

The Modern Woodmen of America will donate a Colorado Blue Spruce to the school for the event.  4th grade students are invited to the presentation given by Mayor Terry Greenman, Gerry Bates of the Idaho Community Forestry Advisory Council, and Principal Matt Seely.

Four 4th grade winners of an essay contest will be announced and will be recognized on a plaque that will hang at the school.  Dile Monson, who recently retired as the city’s electrical superintendent, and Bill Atkins from the Cassia Regional Technical Center made the plaque from  the wood of a silver maple tree.

Every year the Burley tree committee works with the 4th graders to promote trees and their care.  This will be the third year a tree has been planted at the school in honor of National Arbor Day and the city’s 10th year to receive recognition as a Tree City USA.
